DAWNA THOMPSON, PH.D.
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Fairfax, VA. I have extensive training and experience in the psychological assessment of both children and adults, and I truly care about helping you find the answers to issues that may be impacting you or your child at school, work, or home. My goal is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your or your child's unique patterns of strengths and needs.
I received my undergraduate degree from Hamilton College, and later obtained my MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. Prior to going into private practice, I was a faculty member with George Mason University’s School Psychology program, and the Director of GMU’s Cognitive Assessment Program and Early Childhood Center. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults from the Northern Virginia community, and also worked as a psychologist for Fairfax County Public Schools for over ten years. Current areas of specialty include: comprehensive assessment of learning, attention, and emotional disorders; assessment of children and adults with advanced academic/cognitive abilities; and early childhood assessment. I have taught graduate level courses in Intellectual Assessment; Social/Emotional Assessment; Developmental Assessment; and Child Psychopathology. In addition, I have provided in-service trainings and workshops to school systems and community groups across the Northern Virginia area.
